Item Description
Fine art, to say the least.
Artist John Gruenwald was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1951 and began drawing pictures when he was 4. In high school, a teacher introduced Gruenwald to etching and painting, and thus began his love of art.
Gruenwald started out in Milwaukee focusing on printmaking.
From Milwaukee he moved from Taos, New Mexico, and opened Windmill Press. A few years later he worked at Landfall Press in Chicago, and in 1994 Gruenwald moved to San Francisco where he met Austin Printmaker Terry Chastain. The two merged equipment and space and became Tinhorn Press, the name of the studio the two share to this day.
Gruenwald's work ranges from paintings to prints and drawings. His subjects tend to be soft, comtemplative and calm, often of sensual women and faces and heads in meditation. His work is represented by galleries in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and California and can be found in collections around the world.
This piece, an original Monotype Drawing mounted on wood panel, entitled Untitled (face series), is a warm and blissfull meditation that provokes calmness and creativity.
