Item Description

America’s leading World War I ace, Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, is depicted in the beautiful print flying his SPAD XIII Number 4523. The aircraft carries the squadron numeral “1” and the 94th Aero Squadron insignia signifying Uncle Sam’s throwing his “hat in the ring” on America’s entry into World War I. The tale of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker was also the inspiration behind the naming of AOPA’s “Hat in the Ring” donor society.

The print conveys the feeling of flight in the SPAD and shows the character of the aircraft and the precise pattern and appearance of its six color camouflage scheme. Noteworthy are the round white circular patches which cover enemy bullet holes as a reminder to its pilot of errors made in previous combat.

This piece of aviation history comes to life as a signed and numbered print by famed aviation artist Keith Ferris. Originally designed for AOPA, the print is beautifully framed and comes with a certificate of authenticity as well as a unique, highly detailed matching model plane.
