Item Description
The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art at St. Petersburg College, Tarpon Springs was built to house the 20th Century paintings, sculptures, works on paper, tapestries and stained glass by Abraham Rattner, Esther Gentle and Allen Leepa. Through his use of color and movement, Rattner expressed reactions to the major world events of the 20th century. Esther Gentle, Rattner’s wife, was a printmaker, sculptor and painter. Her son, Allen Leepa, was an abstract expressionist painter and noted author.
This auction item is family membership to the museum, a paperback book Allen Leepa: A Retrospective and a handwoven paper basket by Emily Stehle of Clearwater.
The basket, woven from recycled rack cards from The Pier Aquarium and on three "legs" of willow, is embellished with new glass and ceramic beads. It stands 18 1/2 inches tall and widest diameter is 4 inches.
