Item Description

Don't miss your chance to go batty for Point Reyes. Bring up to 9 of friends (kids encouraged!) for an evening exploration of the world of bats at Point Reyes. Your guests will get a chance to discover this world with bat biologist Dr. Gary Fellers, who will share his extensive knowledge about our mammalian insect eaters and let you join in the research efforts to learn more. Dr. Fellers will discuss the natural history of bats, where they live, how they migrate, what they eat, and their conservation status. We will also see a demonstration of research equipment for capturing and studying bats (e.g. harp traps, mists nets), and possibly a live bat.

As it begins to get dark, Gary will set up special night vision equipment and an ultrasonic bat detector that makes it possible to hear bat vocalizations that normally fall outside the range of human hearing.  As the bats begin to vocalize, participants will have a chance to glimpse them as they fly in the twilight. The best times for this event is April through September when we can catch night emergence and have a chance to see bats up close. Place your bid today!
