Item Description

Invite up to three friends to join our field seminar instructor and Bay Area artist James Freed for an afternoon of nature journaling and sketching at Point Reyes.

Artists have had a long-standing impact on the formation, expansion and direction of our national parks. Early visual artists like George Catlin and Albert Bierstadt focused attention on natural wonders in the western landscape, then unfamiliar to most of the eastern populace. These visual records of early artists helped to stimulate the establishment of many of our national parks.  Today, artists like James continue to document national park landscapes with contemporary approaches and techniques.

You and your guests will enjoy personal instruction from James on how to keep a record of your nature observations in a illustrated journal format. James will share his techniques on how to capture and illustrate nature, how to paint a five minute landscape and an animal on the move using a variety of media including watercolors and colored pencils. James can tailor his teachings based on your experience. Each guest will also receive a small art kit to get them started including a journal, water color pencils and color wheel. This is your chance to unleash your creativity and discover the world of Point Reyes through the eyes of an artist. Bid Today!

James currently heads his own exhibit design firm and teaches drawing and design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
