About Chris "The Cannon" Wagner
At the young age of ten Chris Wagner got started in the martial arts and never looked back. As Chris`s peers played baseball and football he was working on his technique and fighting skills.Growing up Chris did not like team sports he says” the martial arts just fit me right”.As the years went by as a young teenager Chris won numerous Karate and Tae Kwon do tournaments.Chris felt that those tournaments were to “restricting” because of the limited amount of contact allowed to your opponent.Thats when Kickboxing came into the picture”I wanted full contact no pulled punches no non sense no excuses.
Desiring to be the best he could be Chris studied various martial arts such as Japanese Kenpo, Korean Tae Kwon Do, Mauy Thai, Western Boxing and American Kickboxing.Chris says” I studied all different forms of martial arts to make me a complete fighter in the kickboxing ring”.Chris had a very successful amature kickboxing career which consisted of a New York State Middleweight Championship title.During this title fight he got the nickname “The Cannon”,a Madison Square Garden announcer was calling the fight when the bell rang Chris ran across the ring and knocked his opponent out in 50 seconds of the first round the announcer was so excited he said Chris flew across the ring like a cannon “the name just stuck”.As time went on Chris`s dream job became a reality he turned professional.”This was the best thing that could happen to an athlete I was getting paid to train and fight”.As years went by Chris kept training and fighting and while doing this he decided to open Cannon Kickboxing in Long Beach New York.As time went on Chris won numerous professional titles but he wanted more he wanted to be the best in the entire world. On October 12,2002 at Mohegun Sun Casino Chris got his shot and won a ten round fight against Tony “TNT”Ventura for the K.I.C.K Federation LightHeavyweight World Championship.”It was a dream come true a culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice”.Nowadays Chris spends his days at Cannon Kickboxing & Fitness training men and women to stay in shape while learning the art of kickboxing.
