Item Description
Elizabeth Swain is an English born director, actor and teacher who has recently moved to Los Angeles where she is an Associate member of the Antaeus Company. She made her Broadway debut inCharley’s Aunt, opposite Louis Nye. Other Broadway credits include Crown Matrimonial, with Eileen Herlie and George Grizzard, Sherlock Holmes with Robert Stephens and a featured role in the NYC Opera’s production of The Crucible, directed by Frank Corsaro. Other acting work includes regional theatres, national tours and plays off and off off Broadway. Television appearances include Dark Shadows, One Life to Live, As the World Turns and five years on The Guiding Light. She has an active voice over career, including recorded books.
Recent directing credits include Marston’s The Malcontent for Antaeus' 2010 Classicsfest, Master Harold and the Boys for Cape May Stage, Medea forAntaeus, A Midsummer Nights Dream for CSU at Long Beach and Macbeth for the NY State Theatre Institute. Other favorite productions are an all female Hamlet, The Winter’s Tale, Aphra Behn’sThe Rover and The Lucky Chance and Timberlake Wertenbaker’s The Love of the Nightingale and Our Country’s Good.
At Antaeus, Elizabeth has led text discussion sessions on Richard II, The Tempest and The Winter’s Tale and was awarded an NEH fellowship to study Shakespeare’s staging at The Blackfriars in Virginia and Shakespeare’s Globe in London. She also teaches at Antaeus and A Noise Within and returns to NY for regular Shakespeare sessions at the Michael Howard Studios. She has also taught atNYU, CCNY, Hunter College, NY, Barnard Collegeand is currently Professor Emeritus at Marymount Manhattan College where she taught until her recent relocation to Los Angeles.
