Item Description
Watercolor from the sketch book of architect and artist, Alan Joslin. This landscape / cityscape watercolor, is done in warm sepia tones, is beautifully matted and is in a black frame. The art alone measures 8"w x 5"h and matted and framed 17"w x 14"h.
Alan explores the visual and aural world of place making and story telling, as expressed in environmental design, theatre, dance, music, movies, drawing, painting and photography. He feeds this interest through travel- drawing on the one hand from the civic energy of the urban center, and on the other, from the interplay of forces found in the natural landscape. In turn, he both documents and creates through the medium of architecture, scenic design, photography and drawing. His sketchbooks give a glimpse of each.
Alan Joslin was the principle architect of the Shalin Liu Performance Center. Alan is a founding partner of Epstein Joslin Architects, an architectural design and consulting practice, begun in 2002, serving cultural arts, academic institutions, housing and the custom residence market. On occasion he is a Visiting Associate Professor in the Architecture Department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he teaches architectural design.
Alan received his Masters of Architecture, and Bachelors of Science in Art and Design degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with associated study at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design, in Urbino, Italy. As a student he was the recipient of the Chandler Prize (1981) and the Chamberlain Prize (1980) from the Boston Society of Architects for achievement in design.
Mr. Joslin has also been a juror for the 2002 BSA/AIA New York Housing Design Awards, 1997 AIA Philadelphia Chapter Design Awards Jury, and the 1996 AIA Orlando Chapter Design Awards Jury, as well as a design critic at MIT, Boston Architectural Center, and Roger Williams University. His design work has received 53 local, regional and national design awards, including 4 National AIA Honor Awards.
