Item Description
Middle Ridge is a boutique winery born in the mountain arts community of Idyllwild, CA. The friendliness of the small town inspired winemaker Chris Johnston to bring people together with handcrafted, artisan wines in intimate settings. Middle Ridge’s philosophy is simple: to have a conversation with everyone who comes in contact with the winery.
Included in this package are two bottles each of our 2007 Tahquitz (cinsaut), 2008 Tahquitz (cinsaut), 2006 Meritage, 2007 Meritage, 2008 Meritage, 2008 Mountain (Cab Franc).
2007 – Cinsaut
If you like a lighter, soft red wine, you’ll love our 2007 Tahquitz. Named after a legendary rock outcropping in Idyllwild, where Middle Ridge Winery was started, this wine is dry but full of fruit aromas and tastes.
2008 Cinsaut
This is our second Tahquitz, named after a legendary rock outcropping in Idyllwild, California, the headquarters of Middle Ridge Winery. True to the characteristics of a Cinsaut, Tahquitz is a light-medium bodied wine with lots of fruitiness and soft tannins.
2006 Meritage
This Meritage blend shows off the beauty of Temecula Valley fruit. Each of the components -- Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot – stand out on their own, and blended together they produce a rich and elegant wine. A bouquet of black currant and black cherry is complemented by notes of boysenberry, tobacco, spice, and mocha.
2007 Meritage
Red Meritage wine, a blend of Bordeaux varietals, is known for its smooth, silky texture. Made mostly of Merlot, this Middle Ridge Meritage is especially smooth. The addition of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot give it a complex, robust structure. Rich aromas of black cherries and blackberries abound, accented by hints of spice and tobacco. As the wine opens up, a touch of vanilla and licorice unfold.
2008 Meritage
In 2008, Winemaker Chris changed up his ageing protocol for all of his red wines to a minimum of 24 months in French Oak barrels. It is especially noticeable in this Meritage. A thoughtful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot it is a wine very reminiscent of a Bordeaux wine – good acid, smooth tannins and wonderful aromas, you can appreciate it now or hold on to it for some time to come.
2008 Cab Franc
Cabernet Franc is known for its smooth drinkability and spicy nose, and this one is no exception. The fruit-forward aromas are that of red cherries, blueberries, and a hint of raspberry along with a slightly dusty nose. It has good Cabernet Franc spice in the nose with a burst of fruit on the palate. The oak integration is wonderfully smooth with a nice fruit finish and a gentle vanilla aroma wrapped around it all.
