Item Special Note

A note from the Sienna Fontaine:

There is no doubt in my mind that the most beautiful place in the world is where I grew up.

After graduating with a degree and teaching-license in Art Education from The University of Vermont in 2004, I have taught art and special education at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg, Vt., I traveled to Europe, I began my Masters program of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts at Goddard College, and I have become a part of several weddings of those whom I love. In addition to teaching at CVU, I also taught night adult classes in photographic composition and I am continuously exploring the art of creating in everyday life.  My Graduate studies have taken me on the journey of the study of sense of identity and home, family ancestry, Vermont native history, ecology and environmental art/studies, performance expression, site-specific installations, and raw foods/healing methods as artistic practices.

Currently, I am beginning a new career path- one of immense learning, problem solving, planning, and teamwork (I was already a teacher, but now I am a merchandiser).  I work at an amazing locally owned independent health food store rightfully named Healthy Living Natural Food Market, in South Burlington, Vermont.  Somehow my path of life has lead me to the opportunity to use cereal boxes, water containers, and flatware as media as I create displays that both utilize the product and catch your eyes.  What a serendipitous occurrence that my studies of food and locality would so rightfully mesh with my creative side and become a profession.

The following statement from Frank Stella appropriately summarizes my love affair with creativity statement: “I don’t like to say I have given my life to art. I prefer to say art has given me my life.”

My work is a place of nostalgia as well as wonder of the unknown ahead. I am constantly exploring the natural world around me. The farm life of my younger years meets the surroundings, experience, and knowledge of my present life through a variety of mediums. However, I focus on two-dimensional artwork; watercolor and acrylic painting specifically. Nonetheless, a constant message can be viewed, which is an awareness of what once was and what I can still strive to accomplish: a natural state and appreciation of all living things.
