Landscapes, created and operated by Avarie Shevin, offers full-service creative garden and hardscape design, installation, irrigation, lighting, and detailed maintenance. Specializing in unique findings, hand-picked plantings, artistic pruning and an eye for color, Landscapes' goal is to provide a custom design that is personal and unique as well as functional.

Avarie Shevin, born and raised in Los Angeles, California, was surrounded by design from an early age. With both her mother and grandmother acclaimed interior designers, it was inevitable that she would find her way into the design world. However, originally following in her father's footsteps Avarie spent 15 years in the music business as a publicist and business manager, working with artists including Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones, Luther Vandross, Rick James, and Ozzy Osbourne, among many others. But while freelancing as a personal shopper she found that her real talent was her "eye" for style and the ability to "shop" for people better than they could for themselves. She seemed to know just how to pick things out for others, regardless of what their personal taste was.

But not until someone drove by Avarie's garden and hired her on the spot to landscape their own, did she realize what her niche in the design world was. During her first landscape job she felt at home for the first time. She immediately saturated herself with landscape design, studying every garden she saw, researching other designers' work, investing in books, driving from nursery-to-nursery, taking classes, asking lots of questions, and getting her hands very, very dirty! She was lucky enough to find an outstanding crew and Landscapes was in business.

In April, 2002 Avarie was thrilled to be featured in Marie Claire magazine, working alongside Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair on a landscape project. She has also done shows for HGTV, including winning 2 episodes of "Landscaper's Challenge" and "Outer Spaces."

Avarie's passion is working with animals and volunteers her time for two animal rescues. So working with pets and providing a landscape design with them in mind is always a pleasure.
