Item Special Note

This stand is a unique one-of-a-kind piece of art! Because all stands and artwork have been sealed, they can easily be wiped down with a damp towel for easy cleaning.  It is recommended that all stands be used indoors as a precaution against the elements.

Each stand comes with two stainless steel water and food bowls (2 quart for large dog stands, 1 pint for small dog/cat stands).

Artist Biography:

Professional glass artist couple Garry Cohen and Cherrie La Porte 
made a decision to follow a different way to make a living as glass artists and sculptors.  It’s what they call creating the “field of dreams”.  Using the inspiration from the movie of the same name and the concept that encompassed the theme of the movie,” build it and they will come” the couple have done just that.  Most craft artists have to pursue a business of road shows, festivals and galleries to promote and sell their work.  Not so this artist couple, who have built their concept of Glass Ranch which consists of a professional hot shop, a fusing studio and a working environment that is accessible to the public located at their home property.  They decided that being on the road with their art was not truly what they wanted to do so they decided to enhance what was right in front of them, create a natural setting to showcase their art and invite the public to experience a working artist environment.

“So far this concept has paid off and we love working here in on our little slice of paradise
in Del Dios” says LaPorte.

Both she and her husband Garry work diligently making beautiful creations in glass and mixed media to offer to the public during their semi-annual open studio show and glassblowing demonstrations. “This is a wonderful way to shop in a venue I suspect few have experienced” says Cohen. Not only do you have a chance to purchase beautiful glass creations direct from the artist but you also get to watch live demonstrations and feel the passion the Cohen’s have for their chosen medium. 

With a combined experience in glass of over forty five years they have seen the industry rise and fall. There used to be around ten hot shops in the county but with the cost of fuel and the economy dropping the bottom out of the art market, times have changed dramatically for artists in the region. 

“It’s tough to stay afloat “ says Cohen and being an artist is not for the feint of heart but both Cherrie and I are dedicated glass artists and take pride in the fact that we offer quality “home grown” glass art to the public at large.  “You can buy imported art glass and many of the gift shops do just that” says Cohen but we take pride in the fact that our glass is manufactured right here in the states and is made by local artisans”.

  The public is finally getting it that local artists need to be supported because of the cultural nature of art in general.  

“Art has traditionally been one of the defining earmarks of culture throughout history” says Cohen “and we are proud to promote our culture here in America”

Many people who visit Glass Ranch are amazed by what the artist couple have accomplished and they often hear their visitors say that they had no idea that anything like this existed and say that they are” inspired” to try and create an beautiful environment with their own spaces. 

“That’s one of our goals” says La Porte not only to promote our art but to also offer inspiration to all that come to visit the Glass Ranch.”

The Glass Ranch is open to the public twice a year.  Their semi-annual shows on the first weekend after thanksgiving and the weekend before Mother’s Day usually draws hundreds of people and is a good time to experience Glass Ranch and meet the artists.

Garry and Cherrie also accept commissions to create unique garden sculpture, blown glass and jewelry creations.  They also offer group tours and private glass blowing demonstrations for groups of 10 – 25 people.
