Item Description

Theatre Rhinoceros invites you and a guest  to the world of LGBT theater...with Two (2) Series A Subscription Cards to Theatre Rhino's 2011-12 Season (five productions).

Theatre Rhinoceros is the world's oldest queer theater production group. It was founded in San Francisco in August 1977. Its first play, The West Street Gang by Doric Wilson, was staged in a South of Market leather bar, The Black and Blue.

Theatre Rhinoceros produced the first work by any theater company in the nation to deal with the AIDS epidemic. In 1984 their show The AIDS Show: Artists Involved with Death and Survival hit the stage. In 1987 the directors were awarded the Media Award from the Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Artists.

Theatre Rhinoceros was able to negotiate contract with Actor's Equity Association making Theatre Rhinoceros the first gay theater company to employ actors under a professional seasonal agreement. The company was recognized by the California State Assembly on its own twenty-fifth anniversary and again as a pioneering organization at the twenty-fifth anniversary remembrance of slain San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk.

Theatre Rhinoceros develops and produces works of theatre that enlighten, enrich, and explore both the ordinary and extraordinary aspects of our queer community.

Come check out these fun, poignant and relevant LGBT productions!
