Item Description

This unique, active learning vacation experience in Denali National Park is guaranteed to provide you with memories of a lifetime
.

Spend three nights in June/July 2012 at Camp Denali, a distinctive wilderness facility in view of Denali and the Alaska Range, located near Wonder Lake and the end of the 95-mile Denali Park road. Camp Denali is a private, family-owned property, surrounded by close to six million acres of Denali National Park and Preserve.

Roundtrip transportation from Denali National Park train depot and Camp Denali will be provided. The 90-mile journey into the park will provide an introduction to Denali National Park.  Your driver, a naturalist guide, will interpret the geology, ecology and history of the park as you travel through it.  We will also stop to enjoy scenery and wildlife sightings.  This may be where you catch your first sight of a caribou, Golden Eagle, grizzly bear or even the high summits of the Alaska Range. A hearty, picnic-style dinner, served at the midpoint of the drive alongside the East Fork river, is provided as your evening meal on your arrival day.

During your stay at Camp Denali knowledgeable naturalist guides offer daily outings to explore Denali's trail-less terrain and to view wildlife.  Each evening, staff naturalists and visiting specialists present programs to enhance your understanding and appreciation  of the Far North.

This package includes:

  • 1 night stay at the Parkside Guest House, a distinctive Bed & Breakfast in Anchorage (room with shared bath). This stay can either be for just before or just after the Camp Denali stay for a Thursday or a Monday in June/July 2012.
  • 3 night stay at Camp Denali during June or July 2012 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Your stay at Camp Denali includes meals, guided outings, evening programs, and opportunities for independent activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, and canoeing.

Camp Denali is situated on 67 acres of rising terrain, centered on a pond that reflects up to eleven major peaks of the Alaska Range.  A hand-hewn log lodge, built by the founders in 1954, still offers up hospitality at the heart of Camp Denali, while guest cabins are set along an ascending ridgeline to take best advantage of the surrounding views.  A new dining hall, a natural history resource collection, a modern shower and bathroom facility, and other public spaces radiate out from the lodge.  The newer buildings and facilities compliment Camp Denali’s rich history and reputation as one of the first wilderness lodges in Alaska.

Lodge accommodations are in well-spaced cabins, appointed with traditional cabin amenities including hand-sewn quilts made by our staff, wood stoves and propane lights.  Drinking water comes from a spigot by your door, and may be heated in your cabin for a quiet cup of coffee, tea or for washing up.  The dining hall, lodge, natural history resource collection and a modern bath and shower facility are a three to seven-minute walk from your cabin.  In addition each cabin has a meticulously kept handmade outhouse, and each cabin enjoys clear views of Denali when it’s out.  Camp Denali sits right at the 2,400 foot tree line, providing access to native tundra and taiga habitats right from your door.

NOTE: This package is good for 2 people (1 room) during June or July in 2012 (no postponement for following years). Camp Denali stay must be scheduled for a Friday, Saturday, Sunday night stay. The room night at Parkside Guest House may be used just before or after the Camp Denali stay on a Thursday or Monday night.
