Item Description
Labyrinth Seraphim pendant in sterling silver. 1 1/2 inches tall (38mm), 3/4 inches wide (18mm) on 20" sterling box chain.
Item Special Note
I copied this design by hand from a photo of a roof corbel on the Watts Chapel in the village of Compton, near Guildford, Surrey, England. The memorial chapel was built to commemorate George Frederick Watts, a well known Victorian artist and sculptor, by his wife Mary, with assistance from local artisans. It dates to c.1896. The 7 circuit labyrinth design was copied from the labyrinth on the floor of the San Vitale basilica at Ravenna, Italy. There is a similar 7 circuit pattern in the Papal Treasury at the Vatican. Thanks to Jeff Saward for the original image and history!
