Item Description

This cream colored skirt made of rough cotton-type material, has an embroidered potato blossom on the pocket.  The skirt is approximately 26 inches long from the waist to the bottom of the fringe, with an adjustable drawstring waist.  The skirt was made by Artes del Valle, a women's craft group in Colorado organized by RDLN graduate Shirley Ortega. Artes was one of four women's producer groups involved in RDLN's Rural Women's Product Development and Marketing Venture.  Shirley earned her master's degree from Antioch University through RDLN.

Artes had the use of a beautiful church in Center, for which Shirley obtained historical preservation funds.  After much work had been accomplished, the church decided to take possession of the building again.

Shirley has been a teacher, an ESL instructor, and a healthcare administrator.
