Item Description
This beautiful art glass bowl was created by GlassMaster David Leppla at Maho Bay Art Center. It was made in the incalmo technique which began in the sixteenth century when Italian glass makers wanted to achieve the look of two or three different colored sections of glass to make it appear as if it was one piece of glass. Each piece of glass that is to be made into one is blown separately and must be the same width at the base or top where it is to be fused to another piece of glass. This second piece must be placed directly at the edge of the first piece and fit perfectly so there is no overlap with the edges. This bowl is an exquisite example of this technique. It measures 12 inches across by 7 inches high.

About Maho Bay Art Center and the Artist:
David Leppla was educated at Kent state University where he obtained his Masters Degree in Fine Arts. He did a Fellowship at Konstfackskolan, Stockholm Sweden. He has received awards from The New Jersey Council for the Arts Grants in 1993, Distinguished Artist, New Jersey Council for the Arts Grant 1989, Creative Glass Center of America Fellowship, Millville NJ, 1986, ITT International Fellowship Award, Stockholm, Sweden 1982. His works can be seen on display at the Museum of Decorative Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland, New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans La., Rockford Art Museum, Rockford IL, Rutgers Collection of Art, Rutgers University, Camden NJ., Wheaton Museum of America Glass, Millville, NJ. The art glass of David Leppla can be found in many private and public collections throughout the United States.
