Item Description

6L of Chateau Lascombes Margaux Grand Cru Classe 2005

Margaux – Grand Cru Classé
Founded in the early 1600's by the Lascombes family, the chateau was classified as a second growth in 1855. In 1952, famed wine authority Alexis Lichine purchased the buildings and 207 acres of Chateau Lascombes and oversaw the estate's extraordinary metamorphosis. Today's current owners have committed themselves to an even higher echelon of quality as evidenced by their uncompromising approach to the wines and choice of world-renowned enologist Michel Rolland at the winemaking helm. The terroir of Chateau Lascombes contains an outstanding diversity of soils, including calcareous clay soil ideal for Merlot and gravel-sand soil that is equally favorable for Cabernet Sauvignon. The latest wines have garnered international acclaim for their pure expression of the Margaux region.

Winemaking

The soils fall into three main categories: Limestone and clay- gravel for Merlot, sandy gravel for Cabernet Sauvignon and gravel for Petit Verdot

The grapes are crushed to temperature- controlled tanks where they undergo a pre-fermentation cold soak. During fermentation, the cap is managed with thrice-daily pumpovers. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in 80% new French oak barrels, with minimal egg white fining before bottling.

2005 Chateau Lascombes
Margaux – Grand Cru Classé
94-96 pts, The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker
"The most profound Lascombes produced under the new ownership, the 2005 is a 25,000 case blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot. It boasts an inky/blue/purple color in addition to an extraordinary perfume of charcoal, barbecue smoke, grilled meats, and sweet blackberries, cherries, and violets. With tremendous intensity, purity, freshness, definition, palate presence, and moderately tannic finish (the tannin is sweet and well-integrated), this blockbuster is rich and concentrated yet maintains its Margaux typicity. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030."
