Dive with with Giant Manta Rays, sharks and many other pelagics in Socorro Islands, on the Solmar V, Luxury Live-Aboard Dive Vessel, 9 days 8 nights in 2013
The Solmar V is a true four-season live-aboard that takes advantage of weather patterns to provide optimal diving year-round.
You will journey 250 miles south of Los Cabos into the eastern Pacific Ocean to the Revillagigedos Islands—more commonly known as the Socorro Islands—to dance with the Giant Pacific manta ray, cavort with dolphins, dodge seven different species of sharks and thrill to an occasional lucky interaction with the migrating humpback whale population. This is remote, adventure diving at its finest.
The Sea of Cortez is one of the youngest and most fertile seas on earth, containing over 850 species of reef fish, as well as the famous flying mobulas and an assortment of schooling pelagics and tropicals. The Solmar V team has been diving the Sea of Cortez for over 25 years.
The Revillagigedos Islands consist of 4 islands. They are wild, remote and unpredictable and have been called the Mexican Galapagos.
We have encountered up to seven species of sharks on a single dive! There are several hammerhead cleaning stations that we visit each trip, weather permitting. Whale sharks are a special treat at the islands, they find us in November/December and late April/May.
We also encounter pods of wild bottlenose dolphin on a regular basis and from January through March, these islands are home to a large population of humpback whales, that come here to breed and calve. We have observed several newborn humpbacks in the years we’ve been fortunate enough to visit these remote and pristine islands. In the last few years the frequency of underwater encounters with humpbacks has increased dramatically. The scientists who visit the Revillagigedos Islands every year to study the migrating whale population tell us that after twelve years of encountering the SOLMAR V, the humpbacks now recognize our vessel and so the opportunity for underwater encounters improves. Add to the mix extremely large tuna (the world record yellowfin is from these waters), wahoo, thick schools of jacks and many other big critters along with endemic tropicals found nowhere else in the world, and you have the BEST BIG ANIMAL DIVING ON EARTH!!
Accommodations
As our guest, you will receive unmatched service and comfort. Our vessel was specifically designed with your comfort in mind. Each mahogany-detailed stateroom features air conditioning with individual controls, a private head, sink and shower and a TV/DVD player for your enjoyment.All staterooms have top-of-the-line "Pillow-Top" mattresses and down pillows, and new carpet.The interior of the Solmar V is outfitted in brass, rich mahogany, granite table tops and is completely carpeted. It is a gracious and beautiful boat. The salon comfortably seats all of our guests and offers a large-screen HDTV, VCR, DVD player and stereo system.

- Tips - While we feel that tipping is a very personal decision and should reflect the service you received, we are always asked to give tipping guidelines. In general, we suggest a tip of 8-10% of the cost of your trip. The tips are given to the captain and divided evenly among the crew at the end of your trip. We ask that your tips be in cash or travelers checks, we do not accept credit cards or personal checks aboard Solmar V.

- This auction is for one space. A cabin will need to be shared if the boat is full. While an additional space may be available for purchase, solo guests may need to share cabin with member of the opposite sex. Please call with questions.
