Item Description
This oblong Raku Ware measures 7"x12" inches and is a unique piece of art work ready to be hung in a prominent spot in your home.
Chicago-based entrepreneur and artist, Gail Walker creates “Raku Ware.” Familiar from its use in Japanese tea ceremonies, raku means “ease” or “enjoyment” in Japanese. Raku is produced by hand molded clay using a firing method developed in the 16th century where the pottery is fired in a kiln at a low temperature and allowed to cool in the open air. Raku methods produce unique color and design pattern effects. Raku fired pots are porous, the glaze naturally cracked, and at times the smoke residue is left on to enhance its appearance
Gail lives in Chicago. Over the span of her artistic career, Gail's raku work has been commissioned for business lobby settings and her designs in other mediums were incorporated into stage productions for Grammy and Oscar winner Isaac Hayes.
