Ann was educated at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts. She moved to London in 1973 and taught Art and Printmaking. She furthered her studies at the Central School of Art and Design and travelled throughout Europe to study and experience famous gardens, art and architecture.
Ann immigrated to the United States in 1977 but she continues to return to South Africa every year to visit family and to consult on various landscape projects.
COMPANY
In 1990 she established her own company, Rosmarin Landscape Design as a natural extension of her artistic training and passion for gardening. She continues to attend courses and seminars in the United States and in other parts of the globe to broaden her understanding of the field. Ann offers workshops and slide lectures to interested groups.
Today, the company remains small despite a growing demand. Ann continues to focus on residential gardens, although commercial projects are always welcome. She consults locally, nationally, in England and in South Africa.
Born and raised in South Africa, Ann Rosmarin grew up surrounded by the Magaliesberg Mountains and Bushveld punctuated by Acacia and the occasional Baobab tree. From an early age, she loved to garden and paint the world around her. Ann's most vivid memories are images of dramatic colour and textural contrasts: mountains covered in indigenous yellow and orange Red Hot Pokers, emerald green rock pools surrounded by ferns, walking through tall shimmering grasses or threading blue Jacaranda blossoms on a string.Brugmansias and Bougainvillea climbed large pergolas and white washed stucco walls with thatched roofs. Poppies, Cosmos and Irises were planted in large drifts that dazzled the eye under inevitable blue skies.
