Item Description

 Wonder in a Bottle

"The gentle sloping Judean hills and biblical Ella Valley are the setting of the Agur winery. Agur is an ancient wine-growing region. Many sites attest to the presence of oil and wine presses from the First and Second Temple, the Roman periods and more modern times. It is here, after all, that Jacob blessed his son, Judah, with grapes.

Agur is named after Moshav Agur. They haven’t been producing since Roman times; but for Israel, they’re pretty mature. The winery that began 14 years ago with a single plot making a couple of thousand bottles has graduated. Today, Agur produces nearly 30,000 bottles of four types of wines."

About the Wines:

"Wine custodian, yes custodian – not winemaker, Shuki Yashuv is one of the true great characters in the Israeli wine making industry.  His creativity to see beyond what the great is, but rather what it will be, allows him to produce some of the most interesting blends of wines in Israel today.

Starting with the Kessem and Special Reserve, a blend of four grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merllot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, Shuki hand crafts these to beautiful creations. Aged for 12-18 months it is the perfect companion to beef or any dark meats your pallet may desire.  The specialty of these four grape blends is the unique character this wine offers.

Any wine name Blanca you would assume to be a white.  But what possible creation could it be? How about a Viognier  & Johanisberg Riesling  blend.  To make it even more interesting, the Viognier is a blend of three harvest, early, middle, and late for added complexity.  The 2009 vintage scored an 89 by Rogov… the 2010 even better.

The Rosa, well, first put away any thoughts of what you think it will taste like.  What if I were to tell you this is a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Cab Franc blend, intrigued yet?  For Shuki, this wine is the most fun to make.  In his words, he likes to listen to it.  Using the Sur Lie method for 6 weeks, this Rosé is no Rosé.  Dry yet full of fruit, do not confuse this with your white zinfandel.

Creative blending of grapes is Shuki’s passion and he has turned
it into an art form."
