Item Description
Eleanor Gould is rooted in the mountains and valleys surrounding Charleston, West Virginia; but has branched across the country. She began with a BA in Studio Art at Roanoke College in Virginia, followed by fellowship at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. Shifting her focus from the studio to the outdoors, she then attained her Masters in Landscape Architecture program at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. These days, she luxuriates in the intersections between landscape, history, and crop cultivation as a gardener at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.
“The paradox is that an out-of-focus snapshot can sometimes be a better, truer likeness than the most carefully posed and costumed studio photograph. Exact quantities should never matter as much to a cook of vegetables (or of anything else) as her confidence in her own senses.”
~Alice Waters (introduction to Chez Panisse Vegetables)
