Anna describes her painting process as follows:
Painting is a meditative practice for me. My work revolves around a desire to learn the properties and possibilities of the acrylic medium, interference colors, and materials such as glass and stone mediums. I like to spend hours in the studio and just see what happens. I come from a digital art background and painting has become a refuge from the restrictions of that intensely precise realm. I paint with real abandon, looking for textures and gestures that are physically and aesthetically pleasing.
On the whole I love to have a sense of wonder, sparkle and shine; to be child- like in creation and enjoy the novelty of color, texture, and shiny objects. Philosophically, my work revolves around this desire for wonder and a love of technology. These concepts are very apparent in my digital work (created with a computer) and more subtle in my painting which stylistically is very Modernist, but requires materials that did not exist in viable forms until the last decade. The sense of calm and a still- mind is the ultimate goal for me-- "work holds off the madness," as Alan Ginsberg said.
My paintings should be viewed at various angles and can create a dance of sorts. Recently I have been working on a weathering process: I apply pigment and let the elements have their way with the canvas. These pieces have been rained and hailed on in between applications of color and altered very little by my own hand.
