Item Description

"Serenity"

"Serenity" is a limited edition 20''x30'' Lightjet image printed on Kodak Metallic paper donated by Ocean Futures Society supporter and fine art photographer Matt Stock. This fine art print is number 2 of 100.

About Matt Stock:

From an early age, Matt Stock wanted to change the world.  He just didn’t know how he’d do it.  He took the traditional path of attending medical school. However, he soon realized that while the medical arts keep the engine of society running smoothly, it is the traditional arts that build the engine itself.  He always saw the world differently, and through the lens of a camera realized that his passion in life lay in photography and not medicine. He then began pursuing his career in fine art and architectural photography by studying at the renowned Miami Ad School on Miami Beach.

Matt has always had an interest in bringing untold stories into the limelight, whether it is the under-appreciated history of a forgotten building or the story of those who cannot speak for themselves. Matt actively participates with the Special Olympics as an official photographer for just this reason; telling inspiring stories of exceptional people. Additionally, he has worked with various agencies using his art to raise awareness about such diverse issues as homelessness, women in distress, and orphaned children awaiting adoption in Miami. His photographic peers have recognized Matt for his unique artistic efforts through several awards including an Honorable Mention in the prestigious 2010 International Photography Awards.

About Matt's Unique Photographic Process:

After five years of experimentation and research, Matt created a unique photographic process utilizing the applied mathematics and science of photography called Painting with Light in the Dark ®. This photographic approach is based on the techniques of da Vinci and other Renaissance masters who used sfumatto to add subtle layers of illumination and tonal depth to their paintings. Using the same concept, he photographs over the course of several hours in perfect darkness and capture hundreds of different exposures per composition. Matt will then choose the best elements of each exposure and combine them using layers in Photoshop. During the photographic process Matt and his assistants will “paint” the subjects with various light sources mimicking the motion of brush strokes. When the final photograph is viewed, hundreds of individual light sources are combined seamlessly to create a hyper-real effect. The image seen here "Summerland Key  My technique of “Painting with Light in the Dark®" allows me to show these groves in a new light, literally and metaphorically. They are transformed into a surreal and beautiful place where man and nature can coexist.  Many people drive past these locations without a second glance. This series shows people the world hidden in plain sight. When the final photograph is viewed, hundreds of individual light sources are combined seamlessly to create a hyper-real effect. All the hues and color saturations are natural with virtually no digital manipulation done to any images.

About "Serenity":

"I spent three years scouring the Florida Keys searching for the perfect mangrove strand that matched my vision of the finished composition and earlier this year I found my inspiration and created this image."
