2 Tickets to the 14th Annual Winter Solstice Celebration: “Sombra y luz”

ZUZI! Dance Company celebrates the Solstice in a multi-generational performance including the ZUZI! Professional company, Apprentice Company, “Many Limbs” Youth Aerial Company, and members of our Annual Community Workshop. The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year; it marks the turning from the cold, dark days of winter to the warmer, lighter days of spring and summer.  Traditionally, this season was used as a time of reflection, renewal, and community celebration. ZUZI!

CoFounder and Artistic Director, Nanette Robinson, and company members Ekida Laurie, Mechelle Flemming, Carie Schneider and Karyn Reim, are presenting dances. ZUZI! is excited to welcome back former company member Wendy Joy, who will choreograph a company piece. ZUZI! will also feature special musical guest artists Pablo Peregrina, Bobby Ronstadt, Sally Withers, Bubba Fass and Zara Ahmad-Post.

Unlike a typical dance concert, the dances in “Sombra y luz” have been influenced by visual artists including the Mexican artist and painter, Frida Kahlo and the 19th-Century French artist, Paul Delaroche. These inspirations make for an overall larger artistic experience. The community multigenerational dance grew out of the writings and improvisations created during the rehearsal experience facilitated by Shar Aslasken and Nanette Robinson.

In addition there will be a silent auction with many items including, jewelry, concert tickets, wine baskets, and much, much more.  All proceeds benefit ZUZI!. In this season of giving, ZUZI! offers a gift of magic of movement, creative energy, and reflection.

Welcome to ZUZI

ZUZI! is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 by Nanette Robinson and Nancy Mellan. Currently Nanette Robinson (Artistic Director) works with a dedicated board of directors, staff and volunteers to create connection, meaning and renewal for children and adults of all backgrounds. ZUZI! is composed of a professional performance company (ZUZI! Dance Company), school (ZUZI! School) and theater (ZUZI! Theater).
