Item Description

ELEGANT VINTAGE RETRO BAR CABINET - Wonderful for Entertaining!

This special piece of vintage furniture is was donated to KXCI because the owners are moving and are trying to downsize- but they don't want it to just go to anyone- they want it to go somewhere special- like a KXCI listener who can treasure this vintage value.

Description from the donor:

This is a vintage bar with a locking liquor cabinet on the bottom. It has the original lock and key. There are sliding glass doors in front of the middle shelf, and the top section opens and drops down as a mirrored shelf in front of the section of glassware. As you pull the top open by the brass handle, the hinged top of the piece opens and the inner shelf displaying the glassware rises up. It's really cool!

The piece was in my aunt and uncle's home in the 1960's. I don't know if it's from the 1940's, 1950's, or 1960's. I also don't know the type of wood. Perhaps mahogany or cherry.

The dimensions are 46 and 3/4" high, 31 and 1/8" wide, 15 and 3/4" deep, not counting the brass handle. These measurements may be off by an 8th or a 16th, but they're pretty close.

The condition of the item is very good considering its age. It does have some small dings and scuffs and some scratches, but fairly gentle wear, considering the number of decades it has been around.

While the piece is fine as is, it originally had wiring and a light. I always meant to take a good look at that situation and get that working again, but I never did. I think there are remnants of wiring, but the wiring would have to be redone. The light is a long tube that is virtually hidden from view. I don't recall noticing it, unless I was purposely looking for it, so if you choose not to get it working, I don't think it is something you will notice anyway.

In addition to the mirrored drop down shelf that you can see in the top right and bottom left photos, there is another piece of glass that I have wrapped up and have always taken with me wherever I have moved. I was originally told that it would have to be "re-silvered." I think that piece goes upright behind the glassware, but I'm not sure.

The thing is, I have enjoyed it just as is for many years, and so can you. My guess is that if someone wanted to refinish it, fix the lighting/wiring and put the extra mirror in there, this extraordinary piece would probably be worth over $2000. I don't know; I'm not an expert, but based on the uniqueness and wonderfulness of this piece, I have always thought this to be the case.

I AM including in the sale the glassware in the top section.

It's a wonderful piece, and particularly fun when having a party or other special gathering.

I'm sorry the pictures aren't better. I hope they are sufficient to give you a good idea about this piece.
