- June 26-27, 2009 – The Blue Jackets use their first overall pick to select Defenseman John Moore from the Chicago Steel of the United State Hockey League.
- July 1, 2009 – The team signs free agents C Sammy Pahlsson and G Mathieu Garon to three-year and two-year deals, respectively.
- July 3, 2009 – Captain Rick Nash signs an eight-year contract extension to remain with the Blue Jackets through the 2017-18 season.
- July 21, 2009 – Blue Jackets sign first round pick John Moore.
- Sept. 15, 2009 – Columbus signs Antoine Vermette to a five-year contract extension.
- Oct. 3, 2009 – Columbus signs Rostislav Klesla to a four-year contract extension through 2013-14.
- Oct. 17, 2009 – Columbus signs Kris Russell to a three-year contract.
- Nov. 11, 2009 – Ken Hitchcock coaches the 1,000th game of his NHL coaching career.
- Dec. 29, 2009 – Blue Jackets acquire Chris Clark and Milan Jurcina in exchange for Jason Chimera.
- Feb. 3, 2010 – Claude Noel named interim coach as Ken Hitchcock is relieved of his head coaching duties.
- Mar. 3, 2010 – Blue Jackets acquire Nathan Paetsch from Buffalo in exchange for Raffi Torres. CBJ get a sixth round pick for Milan Jurcina and a conditional seventh round pick for Fredrik Modin, as well as acquire Matt Rust and Chad Kolarik in two other separate deals.
- Mar. 18, 2010 – Blue Jackets sign Matt Calvert to entry level contract.
- June 3, 2010 – Blue Jackets sign David Savard to entry level contract.
- June 8, 2010 –Blue Jackets tab Scott Arniel as their head coach, he signs a three-year deal.
- June 22, 2010 – Blue Jackets unveil new 10th season logo to commemorate 10 seasons in Columbus.
