About the Artist

Tracie Koziura has been exhibiting her art internationally since 2008. Her biggest passion is wolves which are the main subject of her work although she also enjoys creating a variety of other subjects including landscapes, portraits, wildlife and domestic animals. Specialising in pastels, charcoal and tinted graphite, Tracie's images are realistic, inviting the viewer to connect with the subjects character and inner spirit. Despite being a relative newcomer to the world of art her work has been described as sensitive, adventurous and alive.

"I love the freedom creating art gives me; to explore; to study; to learn about the world around me and all that exists within it. Art has opened my eyes to so many things I had taken for granted - unique subtleties I had been too busy to notice. When I paint, the world comes to a halt; the details of life come into focus. It is truly addictive, this desire to create!"

Item Special Note

Known around the world for her amazing voice and dancing, Shakira is also an incredibly motivated and active philanthropist.

Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEFShakira is one of their global representatives and was chosen based on involvement in global issues, her deep commitment to helping children, and her appeal to young people around the world.

At just 18 years of age, Shakira founded the Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation which she was honoured for at a United Nations ceremony in 2006. The foundation, which has now opened it's SIXTH school, currently provides education and nutrition to over six thousand impoverished children in Colombia and is expanding its work to other countries, including newly launched projects in Haiti and South Africa.

The Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation mission statement reads:

"The Barefoot Foundation work to ensure that every Colombian child can exercise their right to a quality education. Our model targets displaced and vulnerable communities by addressing their unique needs."

Shakira has performed at numerous benefit concerts during her career. She also visited Bangladesh to appeal for the victims of Cyclone Sidr and spent 3 days with the victims and children affected by the disaster participating in the distribution of family kits and warm clothes.

"We shouldn't think of this as charity. Every child has talent to be developed and the potential to become a productive member of society. Education is a powerful tool to unlock those talents - and to break the cycle of poverty that too often traps them.

All I have to do is close my eyes and I can imagine the faces of the homeless children that lived in my neighborhood when I was a little girl. They had no hope. Many of them sniffed glue or took drugs to forget the hunger and the cold. But I have also seen how education can alter the course of a child's life forever.

I am more convinced than ever that education is the key to so many of the difficulties that our children face in countries like mine or in developing countries like this one. It's the key to a better and safer world."

~ Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll

For me, Shakira is a true modern day inspiration and epitomises the expression"Be the change you want to see".

This painting, created to celebrate her birthday on February 2nd 2011, is my tribute to Shakira in recognition of her compassion and dedication towards making a difference in the world by giving back wherever and whenever she can.
