Liz Neumark is the Founder and CEO of Great Performances, a New York City-based catering and event company with a commitment to local, high-quality foods, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. Liz received her Bachelor's in both Urban Studies and Political Science from Barnard. Great Performances provides exclusive food service for many of New York’s major cultural institutions such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, BAM, and Sotheby’s as well as the iconic Plaza Hotel. Katchkie Farm, the company's organic farm in Columbia County, provides fresh ingredients to their catered events, cafés, farmers markets, and artisanal product line and is also home to The Sylvia Center, a non-profit that addresses issues in children’s health with hands-on experiences growing and cooking healthy food. In addition to leading Great Performances, Liz writes a blog on Huffington Post and sits on several food- and community-related boards and advisory boards such as Just Food, The Sylvia Center, GrowNYC, the Governor’s Food Policy Council, and West Side Campaign Against Hunger.
A Day with Liz:
Start your day with a walk through Union Square Greenmarket – to see what the region is producing this week. Then head down together to the Great Performances Kitchen to bring the chefs seasonal goodies from the market. Over a GP family meal, join Liz and the GP Culinary and Design Teams as they discuss new menu and food presentation innovations. Then follow her upstairs for a quick meeting with the Marketing Team about her seedling idea for a special project before she makes the rounds to touch base with Event Directors about their upcoming catered events and ongoing sales strategies. Then, let the curtain go down on your shadowing experience, by making a behind-the-scenes appearance at a GP event – be it a cutting-edge product launch in a modern loft or a black-tie gala in the legendary Plaza Grand Ballroom.
