Raphael Bouganim, born in Morocco, ran away from home and was taken via Norway to Israel, where he studied at Bezalel Institue and with Leo Roth. He came to the US at 17 and built a loyal following in Philadelphia, where his stained glass windows are installed Beth Sholom synagogue of Elkins Park, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. He was a prolific painter in all media with unending techniques. His paintings capture the Jewish spirit.
