Item Description
Meryl, who teaches Roshanim at Kane Street Synagogue Hebrew School, was born on Long Island, New York to music-loving parents, is now know as "Scat Hat" for her Jazz improvisation prowess. But Meryl also covers oldies, Broadway show tunes, Jewish folk songs, and New Orleans funk, rock, and R&B genres. She has a great aptitude for arranging, performing, and analyzing music, and has established partnerships with many NYC based amazing musicians whom she continues to collaberate with today.
Meryl has performed at Spike Hill, Cornelia Street Cafe, Caffe Vivaldi, Puppets Jazz Bar, Waltz Astoria, and the Velvet Lounge, and is looking forward to adding more New York venues to the list. She has been incorporating more blues, funk, and pop elements into her music, while maintaining a strong foundation in jazz. She is currently the lead singer for a rock band called Missing Ships.
After living in the East Village, Park Slope, Washington Heights, and Astoria, she now calls Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, home.
