Item Description

A Taste of Robert Mondavi with 3 Fabulous Bottles:

3L Cabernet Sauvignon RVW 2006 with wooden box, 3L Fume Blanc Reserve 2007, 3L Robert Mondavi Winery Chardonnay Reserve 2007

2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve: Napa Valley’s 2006 vintage began with a wet winter that extended into spring, delivering more than twice the average rainfall for March and nearly four times the April average.  The precipitation delayed bloom, but once the skies cleared, the vines had good fruit set and progressed slowly and steadily through slightly warmer than usual June weather. In July, a brief hot spell of four consecutive days over 100 degrees Fahrenheit had the effect of putting the vines “on hold” before ripening continued when mild weather returned in August. Lower temperatures extended through September and October, with some fog and cloudy days. Overall, the 2006 growing season was significantly cooler than average, and harvest began generally later.  Grapes for this wine were picked October 12-27.  All the fruit was in the winery before light rains fell in early November.  Crop levels for 2006 were average and thanks to the long hang time, which allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, quality was excellent.

2007 Fume Blanc Reserve: The 2007 vintage was ideal for Sauvignon Blanc in Napa Valley. Responding to a cold, dry winter and scant spring rains (rainfall in northern California was 40%-50% lower than average in 2007), vine vigor was minimized from the outset and the vines didn’t produce too much foliage.  Spring temperatures were warm, and the growing season started out fast with early sunny days and foggy evenings, the grapes ripened slowly and evenly.  We began picking Sauvignon Blanc in the To Kalon Vineyard on August 16th and continued at a relaxed pace until august 28th. All of the fruit was in the winery before a Labor Day heat wave Because of the cold, dry winter, 2007 crop levels were slightly lower than usual, but thanks to the mild summer weather, Sauvignon Blanc quality was consistently excellent.

Chardonnay Reserve 2007-The 2007 vintage was an excellent for one for Chardonnay in Napa Valley.  Responding to a cold, dry winter and scant spring rains (rainfall in northern California was 40-50% lower than average in 2007), vine vigor was minimized from the outset and the vines didn’t produce too much foliage.  Spring temperatures were warm, and the growing season started out fast with early bloom and fruit set. Then the weather cooled and mild temperatures prevailed throughout summer into August.  Enjoying ideal conditions of sunny days and foggy evenings, the grapes ripened slowly and evenly.  Fruit for the Chardonnay Reserve was picked over an extended period as each block ripened-from September 21-October 22.  Because of the cold, dry winter, 2007 crop levels were slightly lower than usual, but thanks to the mild summer weather, qualify was consistently excellent.
