One-hour viola lesson. Location of the lesson is at the discretion of the instructor.
Richard Marshall joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1984. In 2003 he was featured with Orchestra colleagues in performances of Stephen Paulus’ String Quartet Concerto, Pieces of Enlightenment. He has performed at numerous Sommerfest chamber music concerts, and in May 2012 he will perform David DeBoor Canfield’s Maesta on the Chamber Music at MacPhail series.
Marshall earned a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. Trained first as a violinist, he studied with Itzhak Perlman, Dorothy DeLay and Bernard Zaslav.
Marshall was a semifinalist at the 1982 Portsmouth International String Quartet Competition as first violinist of the Norquay Quartet. He was also a finalist at the 1983 Banff International Quartet Competition as a member of the Vermilion Quartet. He has coached with members of the Vermeer, Cleveland, Emerson, American and Hungarian quartets, and was featured in a Canadian Film Board documentary on the Banff Centre.
