Only an hour drive from Sacramento, Lake Camanche features boating, fishing, watersports and hiking.

Boating: Camanche is the perfect place to bring or store your boat, year round. The lower end of the lake, with its wide-open geography, is perfect for personal watercraft, wakeboards, water-skis, and other towables. Marinas are located on North and South Shores with eight-lane launch ramps, berthing, storage and rental boats. Covered slips are available on a short-term and annual basis. Camanche features a 5 mph limit within 200 feet of shore, providing quiet beaches for sunbathing and solitude. The upper end of the lake, east of the narrows, is reserved for a quieter boating experience. No personal watercraft or towables are allowed in this area and speed restrictions are imposed.

Fishing: Lake Camanche is best known for great bass fishing, though it is also a favorite of trout anglers. Each year, 80,000 pounds of trout are stocked between October and June, each weighing over 1 pound. The large trout pond at South Shore is a perfect place to take children fishing. There is also a highly unique Florida-strain largemouth bass plant each year. Other species found in Lake Camanche include rainbow trout, large and small mouth bass, spotted bass, catfish, kokanee, crappie, bluegill and sunfish.

Watersports: Camanche is a popular destination for fans of watersports and those who want a great place to cool off in the hot summer. Popular activities include wakeboarding, water-skiing and riding personal watercraft. We are a full-body contact lake unless designated otherwise.

Recreation & Hiking: Many shaded day-use and picnic sites can be found throughout the Camanche Recreation Area. These sites are popular for families and groups looking to spend a relaxing day at the lake. Many of these sites offer immediate access to the lake's amenities. Scenic hiking and equestrian trails travel around the North and South Shores.  Each trail will take you along rolling hills and through several oak groves that offer intermittent shade. A trail use permit is required and may be purchased at either gate. Tennis, basketball and volleyball courts are located on both shores as are playgrounds for the kids.

Lake Camanche Recreation is located at 2000 Camanche Road in Ione.
