Item Description

Pottery is a form of a meditation for Amber Archer. Her work expresses an ongoing interest in exploring color and sound correlations and the effects they produce.

"My passion is throwing - it has given me a sense of discipline and freedom."

For 13 years, Archer collaborated with architectural ceramicist Shel Neymark to create a line of nontraditional raku bowls. Since taking over the business, she has expanded the color palette and added new forms. While traditional raku colors are usually subdued, earthy or metallic, Archer's are unusually bright and bold, reflecting vivid contrasts of the southwestern landscape she loves. The crackled surface of the pieces lends an appearance of age to contemporary forms.

The Raku Process subjects ware to extreme temperature shock giving it the crackled appearance and making it unsuitable for liquid or acidic food storage.

Must hand wash.

The bowl is 9.5" wide by 4.5" tall.
