Item Description
"Blue Morpho Butterfly" (6" x 6") oil painted on paper and on wood by Suzanne Bonser
In this artwork, a botanical rendering of the Blue Morpho Butterfly is painted over a copy of Darwin's list of species in his own handwriting. It derives from the collection "A Cabinet of Curiosities," first exhibited last June in Bridgehampton and inspired by the private "specimens" collections of 18th century wealthy patrons who were interested in the natural sciences. Such collections presaged our present-day Museums of Natural History. Ms. Bonser is a classically trained artist and lifelong observer and painter of life; she exhibits her work regularly and continues to study with "The Tribeca Underground Studio."
