The San Diego Zoo Safari Park, formerly known as the Wild Animal Park, is an adventurer’s safari paradise in Southern California! Ride a zipline right over a wide, open field enclosure full of rhinos and other wild beasts, roll past the wildlife on an off-road Segway, or feed a giraffe from a caravan safari right inside the enclosure. You can even camp overnight among the animals.

Just want to sit back and relax? The Africa Tram takes guests around the Park’s field exhibits, full of herds of giraffes, crashes of rhinos and flocks of exotic birds on an open-air, soft-wheeled vehicle inspired by the legendary safari trains of Africa. The tram travels 2.5 miles around the Park’s expansive African field enclosures, which total 213 acres.

The 1,800-acre Safari Park is home to more than 3,000 animals representing more than 375 species—many living in naturalistic field enclosures. There also are more than 3,500 species in its world-renowned plant collection.

At the Safari Park you may encounter a cheetah leading an animal trainer by a leash or see nine young African elephants playing in a mammoth pool. You might just wander through an aviary where colorful lorikeets eat from your hand and sometimes even land on your head. You never know what wild animal adventures await!

During the Frequent Fliers bird show, you may hear the flapping of the 6-foot-wing span of an African crown crane as it swoops down just inches from your head, or find yourself stunned at the speed of a falcon. With more than 40 species, no two shows are the same!

Robert the Zebra puts on a show especially for the kids. Robert lives in digital animated form on a large screen, where he cracks jokes, talks about zebra life and answers children’s questions.

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is 30 miles north of downtown San Diego in the beautiful San Pasqual Valley near Escondido, Calif. (The San Diego Zoo is located in downtown San Diego.)
