Wine Advocate 91:
Smoke, mulberry, blueberry, and lavender, nicely integrated oak, lengthy, drink now-8 years.
Cap de Faugeres 2003, Cotes de Castillon, Bordeaux, France
Wine Advocate (90-92):
Madame Corrine Guisez, who owns the more famous St.-Emilion estate of Chateau Faugeres, has hit a home run with this terrific sleeper of the vintage. A large-scaled, opulently-textured, inky/purple-colored effort, it boasts a rich, sumptuous perfume of camphor, black raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. It is a rich, full-bodied wine to enjoy over the next decade.
Di Majo Norante Ramitello 2008, Molise, Italy
Wine Advocate 92:
The 2008 Ramitello, a blend of 80% Montepulciano and 20% Aglianico, boasts fabulous clarity and freshness, with layers of vibrant dark cherries and plums that meld together with notable grace. Smoke, tar, menthol and licorice develop in the glass, giving the wine even more dimensions of expression. This is a terrific effort from Di Majo Norante. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.
Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2006, Coastal Region, South Africa
Wine Spectator 88:
Offers inviting aromas of crushed plum and spice, with notes of violet, licorice and graphite. A soft and very accessible style, but with admirable complexity. Drink now.
Tuck Beckstoffer Wines The Seventy Five Wine Company The Sum Proprietary Blend 2007, Napa, North Coast, California
Wine Advocate 90:
This is an absolute steal when it comes to high-class wine. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, and 10% Petite Sirah, which is truly outstanding and an amazing value. Sweet blue and black fruits, camphor, and spice box all jump from the glass of this dense, medium to full-bodied, juicy, supple wine, which is a hedonist’s dream come true. This is a beauty to drink over the next 4-5 years.
Bodegas y Vinedos Fernandez Rivera Dehesa la Granja 2004, Zamora, Spain
International Wine Cellar 87:
Inky ruby. Ripe cherry and singed plum on the nose, with a smoky overtone. This rich and weighty tempranillo offers ripe dark fruit compote flavors and a chewy texture. On the tarry side
Duemani Altrovino 2007, Tuscany, Italy
Wine Advocate 89:
The 2007 Altrovino (Merlot, Cabernet Franc) is a ripe, opulent wine bursting with floral, ripe fruit, sweet herbs and spices. This soft, harmonious red offers terrific balance and tons of style, with a long, intensely satisfying finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.
Bodegas Shaya Verdejo 2008, Rueda, Castilla Leon, Spain
Wine Advocate 91:
The Verdejo grapes for the 2009 Shaya are sourced from both estate vineyards and local growers with vine age ranging from 75-112 years. Medium straw-colored, if offers up an alluring aroma of baking spices, spring flowers, and peach. On the palate it has a creamy texture, vibrant acidity, and intense flavors leading to a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It is a great value in dry, aromatic white wine that over-delivers in a big way.
