Item Description

46" x 23" framed, artist signed limited edition serigraph on gesso board.

As we gaze from our hotel window upon the rooftops of the City of Lights, we see the Eiffel Tower standing tall in the distance as  the city falls into a slumber after yet another beautiful day in Paris.

In Rooftops of Paris at Night, Kondakova has shifted her focus from the city streets to the vantage point of the magnificent skyline, inviting us all to relish in the beauty and elegance of classical French architecture. The rooftops represent a quiet escape from the streets below, a way to experience and appreciate the city of Paris in the privacy of our own surroundings. Kondakova presents us with a view that suggests a kind of melancholy silence. While the sits of the city are illuminated from below and the moon shines brightly above, the Paris skyline seems almost lonely.

In this piece, as with many of her pieces, the artist has compressed a number of the many architectural gems of Paris into one point of view, giving us a guided tour iof the city of love, including the Sacre Coeur Basilica atop the Montmarte Hill, the Hotel des Invalides, the Louvre, and the ever-present Eiffel Tower. Her technical skill is made obvious by the precision needed to accent every tiny embellishmen ton each farr of building, making this a one-of-a-kind view, and pure Kondakova.

Item Special Note

Kondakova's paintings are so rich with clarity and light that they reflect in their extraordinary draftsmanship a sense of artistic and spiritual well-being. One might describe her style as Romantic Realism—her meticulous attention to every detail allows us to become intimately involved in the life of her paintings. In the artist's words: “To me, these streets, with their worn cobblestones and aged buildings, evoke a sense of nostalgia and romance with a touch of melancholy. It is the ideal kind of space in which I would like to live.”

Since her childhood in Russia, Liudmila Kondakova has been fascinated by traditional art, by a sense of spirituality that transcends common existence. Her painting technique is that employed by medieval egg-tempera painters. Her palette—influenced by the icon painters of Byzantium and later, Russia—is both vibrant and beautiful, with colors that blend in a subtle, poetic balance.

Born in Russia in 1956, Liudmila Kondakova immigrated to the United States in 1991. A graduate of the Grabar Center in Moscow, she also attended Russia’s School of Sacred Arts, the Moscow Pedagogical Institute and the Moscow Art Institute.
