Item Description

The story of the cassoulet begins in the 14th century, when citizens of the village of Castelnaudary fed a hearty dish of pork and white beans to French soldiers, who then fiercely defended the region and defeated invaders. Today, the cast iron dish that bears the same name is designed with a deep round contour and slanting sides that are ideal for slow cooking and extracting the full flavor of each ingredient.  The shape is wide at the top, allowing for more surface area for a crispy brown topping when it is baked.

As well as for the traditional cassoulet, this dish would be great for chicken pot pies, shepherd's pie, soups, stews and desserts.

Since 1925, the skilled craftsmen at Le Creuset have perfected enameled cast iron cookware. This type of cookware has many benefits including:
  • All Le Creuset products are coated with the highest quality vitreous enamel. This hygienic, impermeable enameled surface means Le Creuset can be used for marinating food prior to cooking or for food storage after cooking.
  • Le Creuset Cast Iron is a superior conductor of heat. The even thickness of the base, walls and lid mean that heat distribution is even and energy efficient. No hotspots!
  • Le Creuset knobs and handles are ovenproof to 400, allowing for an easy transition from stovetop to oven to table.
