Item Description

Profiling Chteau Pichon Lalande the Wine Advocate wrote Chteau Pichon-Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande to grant it its full title, is the closest you can get to a First Growth without it actually being one. Whilst the waiting room is crammed full of irritable "Super-seconds" waiting in vain to follow Mouton-Rothschild into that exclusive First Growth members club, one can make a strong claim that Pichon-Lalande ought to be at the front of the queue, a wine surfeit with aristocracy, breed and class. The 2004 is from an often overlooked year for Bordeaux but earned 90 and 92 points for WS and WA respectively. WS Tasting notes recalled Aromas of currant, flowers and berries follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a fruity finish. Round and very caressing. Best after 2010. WA noted the 2004 Pichon Lalande is a strong effort for the vintage (much better than their underwhelming and much more expensive 2005). It exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as scents of cocoa, espresso roast, black cherries, and cassis. Medium to full-bodied, opulent, and fleshy, this classic wine cuts a stylistic persona somewhere between the 1995 and 1996. It can be drunk now or cellared for two decades.
