Item Description

Pessac-Leognan is a prestigious appellation for wines produced in a particular area of the Bordeaux region of south-western France. A relatively new appellation, it was carved out of the Graves sub-region in 1987recognized in its own right on the merits of its high-quality red and white wines. Chteau Branon is an old property whose high reputation dates back to the 18th century. The whole estate was in a very poor condition and partly abandoned when Sylvaine Garcin-Cathiard acquired it in 1996 and today it has made an incredible comeback producing 5000 bottles of wine composed of 50% Merlot and 50 % Cabernet Sauvignon. In his article on 2007 Bordeaux, Parker wrote readers looking for up-and-coming stars that remain beneath many connoisseurs radar, should seek out wines such as Haut-Bergey, Les Carmes Haut-Brion, and the only garagiste estate in Pessac-Lognan, Branon. Tasting notes call up berry and blueberry aromas, with a toasty oak and mahogany character. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a chewy finish and very ripe, smoky aromas of blackberry, spices and truffle, with a suggestion of roasted fruits. Sweeter and deeper than the Haut-Bergey that preceded it, offering layered black raspberry, flint and milk chocolate flavors and chewy, ripe tannins that arrive late. Impressively generous, deep and long. Ratings received were 94 points by Wine Advocate, 90 by Tanzer and 88 by Spectator. If you are looking to talk a walk on the more modern side of Bordeaux, try this garagiste gem!
