In June 1996, the first bottle of RODA II was launched in the market and ten years later the brand had become simply RODA. This boxed set was created by RODA to give a nostalgic farewell to RODA II and celebrate an excited welcome of RODA. Presented are the last three vintages of RODA II Riserva from 1999, 2000, and 2001, and the first of RODA Riserva from 2002. All receiving high marks, tasting notes portray four distinct wines. The 89 point 1999 was described with cedar, tobacco and sanguine flavors in this maturing red, with a core of dark cherry fruit and licorice, followed by floral notes on the finish. At 90 points the 2000 was noted to have Spice, dried cherry and vanilla aromas...drawing you in, broadening on the palate with flavors of tobacco and raisin in this expressive, traditional red. Firm, light tannins and crisp acidity give balance and structure. Harmonious and long. Also at 90 points the 2001 RODA II Reserva reveals a saturated dense ruby/purple color, graphite, earth, oak, and black fruit aromas, and a reticent style. It is medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin, outstanding ripeness as well as purity, and a long finish. This is a modern-styled, high class, distinctive Rioja. Finally, the 2002 was described firm, straightforward red has a core of cherry fruit, with slightly rustic accents of earth, game and coffee. A lovely collection to drink now and experience a unique vertical history of Rioja.
