94 points Tanzer. 94 points Parker. 94-96 points Spectator. Do we have your attention? Those were the ratings for this Martinelli 2009 Zin. The Bedrock also received 93 point ratings and is sold out everywhere, including the Vineyard. Carlisle has been making Zins from California old vines for a few years now, and despite its expertise, it is not a household name because you still just cant get it. A total of 339 of this Martinelli and only 55 cases of this Bedrock were produced in 2009. WS has reviewing about 75 Carlisle wines since 1998 and has bestowed 90-100 points on about 50 of them and included at one the last two years lists of top 20 wines. Martinelli tasting notes include Earthy, peppery, spicy notes intermixed with hints of lavender, black cherries, plums, figs and forest floor emerge from this spicy cuvee. Displaying great intensity, massive richness and a huge, unctuously textured finish from Parker, Inky ruby. Vibrant, seductively aromatic nose combines blackberry compote, violet, white pepper, licorice and toasty oak (about 28% of it is new here). Juicy and firmly built, with deeply concentrated black and blue fruit and floral flavors lifted by zesty minerality; red fruit nuances come up with air from Tanzer. The Bedrock is similarly touted by WS as Loaded with opulent, jammy fruit, this shows floral, boysenberry and cherry aromas, with soft, ripe flavors of Asian spice, smoky pepper and fresh sageand Parker as a dense ruby/purple color, plenty of blueberry, black raspberry and kirsch-like fruit, a full-bodied power and abundant purity. These are go big or go home wines and this is your only chance to take them home.
