Item Description
Who says you have to be big to be beautiful? Wine Spectator gave this wine 86 points and said this wine is small in scale, but juicy and lively, with black cherry fruit that picks up flashes of cinnamon and licorice. Wine.com lauds it as balanced and New World styled, this is a wine of personality and elegance a young and refreshing Pinot. Pinot Noir has long been the underdog of Chilean red wines. As recently as 1994, the variety covered a scant 340 acres, but plantings boomed in the late 1990s as winemakers expanded into the countrys cooler climates. As of 2009, the country had more than 7,000 acres of Pinot Noir vines planted, with the best bottlings coming from vines that range from 10 to 25 years old. Via Cono Sur chief winemaker Adolfo Hurtado knows Pinot needs old vines and his are becoming older every year with some now beyond the 20 year mark. The winery had three wines in Wine Spectators 2011 article of top Chilean Pinot Noirs report, including this one. Time for the new world!
