Item Description
Here are two, 92 point, rare and outstanding Oregon Pinot Noirs from 2009 giving you an opportunity to sample terroir of the famous Willamette Valleys Chehalem Mountains and Dundee Hills. The Willamette Valley lies just south of Portland between the Pacific Coast Range and the Cascade Mountains. The valley stretches for 150 miles from the Columbia river in the north to just south of the city of Eugene, and is the largest of Oregon's AVAs, containing two-thirds of the state's wineries. Dundee Hills and Chehalem Mountains both lie about 30 miles south-west of Portland and were the first regions in the state to be planted with Pinot Noir grapes back in the 1960s. Further inland than other Willamette Valley sub-regions, they have distinctive red, iron-rich soil, which is well drained and only moderately fertile ideal for grape growing. From Chehalem Mountains comes the Josh Bergstroms de Lancellotti Pinot Noir. Bergstrom went into the wine business in 1999 with his father and rapidly rose to the top tier of Oregons producers with 19 wines in the winery's first decade scoring 92 to 95 points on the Wine Spectator 100-point scale. WA said in its review The 2009 Pinot Noir De Lancellotti displays the finest aromatics among the Bergstrom wines. Exotic spices, underbrush, sandalwood, rose petal, and a mix of red and black fruits are followed by a forward, elegant, spicy wine with plenty of depth and excellent length. It offers a drinking window extending through 2019. From Dundee Hills comes the Archey Summit Estate Pinot of which only 250 cases were made. The WA described Exotic spices, wood smoke, incense, rose petal, and assorted red and black fruits are followed by a wine with plenty of power for the vintage combined with a sense of elegance. Impeccably balanced, it offers a drinking window extending from 2012 to 2021. WS added Supple, generous and complex, weaving meaty, leafy and smoky notes into the jazzy berry and spice flavors. This has depth and intensity, and the finish doesn't give up easily. You will not find this wine anywhere but at online auctions or here tonight.
