Only 212 cases were ever made so read and weep if you dont get it here. A prodigious effort, the 2009 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard is a blend of 94% Zinfandel and 6% Grand Noir from a section of the vineyard planted in 1886. It is undeniably one of the grand cru vineyard sites in California. The wine was aged in 100% French oak of which 27% was new. This compelling Zinfandel boasts a dense ruby/purple color followed by notes of blueberries, black raspberries, cherries, pepper and bouquet garni. Full-bodied with sensational intensity, texture and length, this stunning effort is a tribute to the glories of old vine Zinfandel. It will provide immense pleasure over the next 5-10 years. It is amazing to think that fifteen years ago no one had ever heard of Carlisle Winery and Vineyards or Mike Officer. Moreover, what Officer has done to preserve old vine Zinfandel vineyards in Sonoma is nothing short of astonishing. Add to that success story his sensational line-up of Syrahs, Petite Sirahs and Rhone Ranger blends and it is undeniable that this man and his winery are at the top of their game. These are artisanal, world-class reds that remain among California's most fairly priced high quality wines.
