Item Description
In his review of Northern Californias 2005 vintage, Robert Parker said an intriguing vintage. Cooler than normal, yields were high, alcohols were lower, and acidity levels came in at slightly higher numbers. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, and proprietary blends have turned out to be exceptional. Beautifully balanced, nuanced, complex, and representing a hypothetical blend of a top vintage of Bordeaux and California, they are not as powerful or as strong as the 2007s or 2002s, nor as tannic and backward as the 2001s, but they are going to be long-lived wines. The Oakville district is one of the most-renowned Napa Valley sub-regions, gaining worldwide recognition for its opulent Cabernet Sauvignon. Mondavis Oakville district specific Cabernet Sauvignon achieved 91 points from Stephen Tanzer and offers a distinctive flavor profile of rich, fruit-focused style and bold tannins. Tasting notes cite Good full ruby. Blackberry and graphite on the nose. Crunchy and young, with flavors of crushed black fruits. Less densely packed than the 2004 but this serious cabernet is evolving very slowly." A lovely standard of signature Napa Cab from one of its most reliable names.
