Item Description

Dr. Jamie Washington serves as the President and Founder of the Washington Consulting Group, a Multicultural Organizational Development Firm out of Baltimore, MD. He is also a senior consultant with The Equity Consulting Group of California, and Elsie Y. Cross and Associates out of Philadelphia. He has served as an educator and administrator in higher education for over twenty seven years. He’s served as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs; an Instructor in Sociology, American Studies and Education, and an Assistant Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland – Baltimore County (UMBC). A native Philadelphian, Jamie earned his Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation and Music from Slippery Rock State College, and a double Masters' of Science degree from Indiana University – Bloomington in Higher Education Administration and Counseling, with a concentration in Human Sexuality. He holds a Ph.D. in College Student Development, with a concentration in Multicultural Education from the University of Maryland – College Park. Dr. Washington also holds a Master’s of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity with a concentration on Pastoral Care and Christian Social Ethics.

Dr. Washington is a founding faculty member of the Social Justice Training Institute - a week long development program for professional and personal development of practitioners in their skills and competencies in designing and facilitating culture change through a diversity lens. This program has graduated more than five hundred participants since 1998 from around the country, and received the 2005 ACPA Voices of Inclusion Award for outstanding programs. Jamie has held leadership positions in ACPA, NASPA, ACHUO-I, MACUHO, MCPA, APA, NGLTF, The Campaign to End Homophobia and the Nation Black Lesbian and Gay Leadership Forum.

Some of Jamie’s honors include a Mayoral Citation as one of Baltimore’s Men of the Year, the 2001 American College Personnel Association Diamond Honoree award for significant contribution to higher education and student affairs work, and a 2002 Voices of Inclusion Award for his work in the area of social justice education. He received the 2007 Pillars of the Profession Award from the National Student Personnel Association. Jamie was named one of the nation’s twenty five best educators on LGBT issues by Campus Pride in 2010.

Jamie Washington has authored and co-authored several books chapters and articles. His most recent work is featured in African American Men in College; and Lessons from the Road, an inspirational book on leadership and life. He’s currently working on his first Book: Reconciliation; Black, Christian and Gay, The Journey to Wholeness.

Jamie is a Lead faculty member with the LeaderShape Institute and the National Certified Student Leader Program, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Golden Key, Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Delta Kappa, education Honorary, and a Life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He has over thirty years of experience in music ministry, is an ordained minister and currently serves as the Associate Pastor at Unity Fellowship Church of Baltimore.

Dr. Jamie Washington is an internationally known speaker, consultant, trainer, and writer on Diversity, Leadership, Spirituality, Organizational Change and Community Development Issues. He engages participants with the intention of fostering effective change in both their personal and organizational lives. A listing of some of his clients include: Shell Oil Corporation, First Union Bank, Wachovia Bank, Boston Bank, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, St. Paul Insurance Companies, California AAA Association, Human Rights Campaign, Leadership Detroit and over 150 colleges and universities across the US, South Africa, and Canada each year.

Item Special Note

Time Frame of Service Offered 
One hour keynote – or, up to two hours of a workshop presentation on the same day. Other formats such as additional breakout sessions and consultations may also be offered and negotiated between the Speaker and the campus.

Type of Audience 
It is preferred to provide the Speaker with a multi-school conference or professional association conference where a diversity of colleges or organizations is present.  Single campus events, staff presentations/training or conferenceare to be negotiated in advance prior to bidding.

Scheduling
All speaking engagements are to be scheduled within 12 months of the close of each Showcase and payment made to the Foundation at the close of bidding or upon invoicing (unless other arrangements are made in advance with the ACPA Foundation Treasurer.) Conversations about availability and scope of the services are encouraged between potential bidders and the speakers in advance of the Convention.

 

Travel Expenses

An additional $500 is payable directly to the Speaker for travel expenses and/or as otherwise negotiated by the university directly with the speaker.
